			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When you enter <em>La Casa</em>, you may notice a particular fragrance in the air that seems familiar, but you can’t quite place it. This is the O<sub>3</sub>,<sub> </sub>also known as ozone, which we generate from an air purifier every evening after we close, and every morning before we open. Ozone is a natural gas that is generated naturally by lightning flashes, as well as ocean waves, waterfalls, and sunlight on fields of snow. It has the effect of cleansing the atmosphere.</p>
<p><em>La Casa</em> also uses ozone for whole-body detoxification. We introduce medical-grade ozone into the body through a steam sauna. The steam opens up the pores of the skin, and the ozone is absorbed into the pores, effecting distribution through the bloodstream, and then throughout the rest of the body. You stay in the steam cabinet for up to 30 minutes, and you come out with your whole body carrying a sweet scent as though you were caught unexpectedly in a refreshing, summer drizzle.</p>
<p>Ozone was first used in WWI to sterilize battle wounds. We learned then that it kills all manner of pathogens—in fact, every pathogen known to mankind is destroyed upon contact with ozone, including the cancer cell. In 1959, a medical machine was built on Germany and O<sub>3</sub> started to be used in wider medical application.</p>
<p>Ozone is an activated, unstable, trivalent (three atoms) form of oxygen. Oxygen is O<tt>2</tt>; ozone is O<tt>3</tt>. Over a period of 20-30 minutes, ozone breaks down into two atoms of regular oxygen by giving up one atom of singlet oxygen (O). This singlet oxygen is a powerful oxidizing agent. When ozone enters the bloodstream and separates into O<tt>2</tt> and O, the healthy cells, armed with antioxidants, absorb the O<tt>2</tt> and repel the O, which zeroes in on the diseased cells and neutralizes them. At one shot then, ozone nourishes healthy cells and destroys malfunctioning ones. Ozone therapy, thus, provides all the benefits of oxygen therapy—which is believed to have anti-aging properties, improves body functioning and promotes longevity by preventing cell death.</p>
<p>The use of ozone as a therapy has been used in medical clinics throughout Europe for 70 years, and extensive research has been conducted to determine its precise health benefits. There are now over 3000 studies documenting the efficacy of ozone therapy. Just as one example, a study in Brazil looked at 300 patients with herpes. With ozone, pain elimination was effective in 90% of the patients. 30% had no further out-breaks for a year. Ozone inactivates bacteria, viruses, yeast, protozoa and fungi; it enhances circulation and purifies the blood and lymphatic system; it stimulates oxygen metabolism and disrupts malignant tumor metabolism; it reduces inflammation and pain; it excretes heavy metals; it normalizes hormone and enzyme production; it improves brain function because the brain uses over 15% of all oxygen in the body. Ozone is the best free radical scavenger that exists; it stimulates the production of the specific enzymes in the cell wall that serve to protect the cell from free radical damage (superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase).</p>
<p>Ozone therapy is cheap to administer, and this is perhaps one of the reasons it has never taken hold as a mainstream therapy in this country. Yet, in other parts of the world, there are whole hospitals devoted to doing ozone therapy. Today 70% of the 10,000 M.D.’s in Germany use ozone.</p>
<p>The key to why ozone works in reversing so many different disease-states is quite simple. As we age, the efficiency with which we extract oxygen from the environment and transport it to cells is lessened. When the body doesn’t have sufficient oxygen, it reverts to a lower level of functional ability: it can’t carry out its hundreds of thousands of activities necessary for health. Instead of <strong>burning</strong> glucose through the process of oxidation, as healthy cells do, the oxygen-starved cells <strong>ferment</strong> glucose anaerobically (without oxygen), producing large amounts of lactic acid. Cells and tissues, then, become over-acidified; they break down, leading to the various diseases of cancer,heart disease, arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and other immune insufficiencies.</p>
<p>When ozone is used in cancer conditions, unlike chemotherapy and radiation, it has no adverse side-effects. It kills pathogens, but leaves healthy cells intact. An article in Science in 1980 reported that ozone inhibits the development of cancer cells “without damage to healthy cells.”</p>
<p>Ozone is also an effective water purification system. Over 3000 cities around the world bubble ozone into its water supplies, including Moscow, Montreal and Los Angeles. La Casa uses ozone to filter its water for both colonics ad well as the floatation chamber.</p>
<p>Ozone has gotten a bad rep in this country because of its association with smog and air pollution. Not only is ozone produced by natural phenomena, it is also produced by pollution. When sunlight, moisture and temperature meet the chemical molecules that constitute pollution, a photochemical reaction takes place that strips off one of the molecules of atmospheric oxygen (O2) and forms ozone (O3), or activated oxygen. In other words, the more pollution there is, the more ozone is generated. On polluted days, we get a high ozone count, but without ozone, the cities would be so polluted, they would be unlivable.</p>
<p>As with any detoxification, you may have a slight detoxifying reaction. This will most likely take the form of an allergy-like reaction – a runny nose, eye tearing, or temporary fatigue. Like any detox, this reaction is good, not bad. The ozone is simply doing its job by breaking down the pollutants in your body. Spectra tests have confirmed that when mucus is discharged, this material is the by-products of the toxins that are being broken down. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It is unfortunate that American doctors have contended for decades that the number of bowel movements an individual has is unrelated to health. They have convinced most of us that they are correct. Most people think that they are not constipated if they are having one bowel movement a day. Yet, we eat three meals a day. Where are the other two meals going if they’re not being eliminated through the colon? The answer actually is somewhat frightening. The rest of the food that is not absorbed by the body as nutrients stays around the body in unlikely places — against the colon walls, in tissues and organs, in arteries — any place at all in the body can serve as a receptacle for uneliminated waste.</p>
<p>Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, of the famed Battle Creek Sanitarium, maintained that 90% of modern diseases are the result of improper functioning of the colon. British physician, Sir Arbuthnut Lane concurred after performing hundreds of bowel resections where diseased portions of the bowel were removed. He noticed that during the time that the patient was recovering from the surgery that other diseases, seemingly unrelated to the colon problem, were cured.</p>
<p>Sir Lane came to understand that a large part of the problem in many diseases was the body’s inability to adequately carry out its normal waste disposal functions. He calculated that a healthy intestine requires emptying every six hours, and that more commonly, it is emptied every 24 hours.</p>
<p>There is scientific research, as well, showing the relationship between bowel functioning and health. British and South African scientists have shown a lot of interest in this issue and have conducted elaborate experiments involving the clocking and weighing of feces of human volunteers. It has been confirmed that too few bowel movements and too little bulk in the stool is related to a variety of disorders, including heart and gallbladder diseases, diverticulitis, varicose veins, hiatal hernia and cancer of the large intestine.</p>
<p>There is also a study of over 1000 women with histories of constipation. Fluid was extracted from the breasts of the women. This fluid showed abnormal cells that are the same abnormal cells found in women with breast cancer. These cellular abnormalities occurred five times as often in women who moved their bowels fewer than three times a week than in women who did so more than once a day.</p>
<p>Our observations at <em>La Casa</em> show that, in fact, Sir Arbuthnut Lane was overly optimistic about the bowel functioning of most of us. What we at <em>La Casa</em> notice is that most people don’t know that their bowels are not functioning properly. Humans are the only animals who have such insufficient bowel functioning. Breast-fed babies, indigenous peoples, birds and animals all evacuate their bowels shortly after each meal.</p>
<p>Normal bowel functioning means there is waste for everything that goes in except distilled water. We need to find those other, lost meals.</p>

<p>We could actually compare the function of the colon in our bodies to a sewer system in a large city. Just imagine what would happen if the sewers in your neighborhood became clogged. Within a short time, the whole area would be filled with filth and an unbearable stench. This is the same process that occurs in our bodies when our elimination system is not functioning properly. When the colon is congested with stagnant waste, poisons back up into the system and pollute the inner environment. This process is called autointoxication (or self-poisoning).</p>
<p>Every cell of our body is affected by autointoxication. When the toxins accumulate in the nervous system, we feel irritable and depressed. We feel weak if they back up into the heart, bloated if they reach the stomach, and our breath is foul if they reach the lungs. If the poisons try to escape through our skin, rashes and blotches develop, or we look pale and our skin appears wrinkly. If the toxins make it to the glands, we feel fatigued, lethargic; our sex drive may cease and we appear to look much older than our actual age. If the autointoxication becomes too severe, we develop degenerative and life-threatening diseases.</p>
<p>Colon hydrotherapy effectively removes stagnant fecal material from colon walls, preventing the build-up of these bacterial toxins in the ports and lymphatic system, resulting in reduced load on the liver. In addition, the treatment removes mucous, gas, parasites, and cellular debris, facilitating peristaltic action and better absorption of nutrients.</p>
<p>Colon cleansing therapy also increases the water level and diuretic action. The water from the hydrotherapy is absorbed, thus increasing the volume of the blood. Circulation is thereby increased, resulting in greater bathing of the individual cells; this dilutes toxins and flushed them out, relieves uremia and toxemia, increases the elimination of both kidneys as well as having a cleansing effect on the skin and the bowels. The process of colon cleansing assists the cardiovascular and circulatory systems to be more efficient.</p>
<p>Colon purification is a serious health condition. Bacteria are involved in the production of several vitamins which are absorbed by the large intestine and stored in the liver (vitamins K and some of the B vitamins). In addition to vitamins, the colon absorbs large amounts of water. Unfortunately toxins of bacterial metabolism also enter the circulatory system. These toxins are treated by the liver and excreted by the kidneys. Colon bacteria ferment starches releasing hydrogen and methane gasses which are absorbed and excreted through the lungs. Intestinal toxemia may further result in conditions such as headaches, allergies, malnutrition as well as an overall lowering of the immunological defense mechanism.</p>
<p>Intestinal stasis creates stagnant or putrefactive conditions and encourages the systemic absorption of pathogenic bacteria and their toxins. The prolonged retention of food residues, bile, and other waste results in increased numbers of bacteria present in the colon. For example, streptococcus and staphylococcus, which are a part of the normal flora of the large intestine can then enter the systemic circulation and be a potential source of disease.</p>
<p>Some years ago, over 50 of the leading physicians of Britain met in London and discussed before the Royal Society of Medicine this problem of autointoxication caused by a toxic colon.<strong> </strong>Twenty-two poisons were identified as originating in a toxic colon. These identified poisons are, however, only some of the many types of poisons that can be found in a toxic colon.</p>
<p>Of course detoxification should not be limited to the colon. It is equally important to detoxify the liver, kidneys, arteries, and in general, every cell in the body. <p>Currently the best water to drink is a pure clean water that is free of organic matter with a pH of 7 or above. There are currently over a 1000 choices of commercially bottled water to drink. But in order to maintain a healthy body and a healthy permanent weight, the water has to have a pH of 7. To lose weight, the pH must be at least 9.5 or above in order to enable the body to release its hold on fat as a protection of the blood and tissues.</p>
<p>Masaru Emoto, a Japanese researcher and specialist in the study of microcluster water, has found that polluted or contaminated water, as well as that which is highly processed and chlorinated, produces microclusters and crystals of water that show deformities.</p>
<p>Conversely, pure alkaline water produces beautiful clusters with a unique and ordered variety. <p>What is <em>Supra-Water</em>?</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Robert Rowan, M.D. talks about the countless times he’s been told by his patients that they have restricted their caloric intake, but just could not lose weight. It was clear to him that there are metabolic factors that enable one person to burn off calories at a faster clip than others. He says that he always thought that exercise was one leading difference, and the other was the particular foods. But he finally concluded that there were so many variables that it was difficult to find out which diet each patient should use.</p>
<p>We know that prior to the 20th century, very few people were obese. We also know the types of foods most of them were eating (mostly natural foods grown in the garden or on the farm).</p>
<p>For our ancestors, there was abundant food in summer and less in winter. But unlike us, they could not ship it in from a far off growing area or preserve it through refining. So winter was a lot tougher for them. Fortunately, our bodies were created with some mechanisms to accommodate seasons of plenty (summer and fall). During these times, our metabolism speeds up and we burn more calories. Then, as we move into the lean seasons (winter and spring), our metabolism slows down and we spare energy for survival.</p>
<p>It’s well accepted among the medical community that fat storage does fit into the model of surviving lean times. In today’s world, calories are abundant during all four seasons. But if this model is correct, why aren’t we burning off the extra calories in these times of abundance?</p>
<p>Believe it or not, the answer is quite simple. Could  the number of calories you burn be determined by how much calcium you’re ingesting?</p>
<p>Calcium intake in America is woefully deficient. The RDA was recently increased from 800 mg to 1,200 mg if you are over 50. Still higher intakes (1,500 mg) have been recommended if you’re over 65 by a NIH consensus panel on calcium intake.</p>
<p>Major studies have shown that older men and women have mean calcium intakes of only 596 and 475 mg respectively! Only 66-75% of younger adult women reach even the 800 mg level! It’s estimated that our ancestors ate 2,000-3,000 mg of calcium daily, three to five times the daily intake of American adults today.</p>
<p>Well, it’s one thing to say we’re deficient in calcium, but it’s a real leap of faith to jump from fats, carbs, and total calories to calcium. So what’s the evidence?</p>
<p>Does extra calcium really speed weight loss for us? Absolutely! One study showed that only two cups of yogurt added to the diets of overweight patients (with no other changes in diet or exercise) caused an average loss of 10.56 pounds in one year. And here are the results of three other studies:</p>
<p>Young women who had the highest intakes of calcium lost the most weight and body fat on weight control programs … regardless of exercise level.</p>
<p>Only 1,000 mg of additional calcium in your diet can result in a 17.6-pound difference in body weight.</p>
<ul>
<li>Higher levels of calcium may prevent fat storage, and more calcium may raise metabolism, thus, burning more calories.</li>
</ul>
<p>Not convinced? Look at this:</p>
<ul>
<li>Each 300 mg increment in regular calcium intake is associated with approximately 2.2 pounds less body fat in children and 5.5-6.6 pounds lower body weight in adults. Calcium can reduce weight substantially, perhaps by as much as 70%.</li>
<li>Women at midlife with low calcium intake gain about 1-2.5 pounds per year. In contrast, those women taking the RDA amount of calcium show a slight negative weight gain each year.</li>
<li>If you’re trying to lose weight on a calorie-restricted diet, increasing calcium will accelerate your loss of weight and body fat stores.</li>
</ul>
<p>Dr. Robert P. Heany reported in the American Society for Nutritional Services, “The data suggest that the effect of calcium deficiency on obesity 85 is likely to be as large as, or larger than, the corresponding effect on osteoporosis prevalence…. The data presented in this analysis suggest that the prevalence of obesity in women could be reduced by 60-80% by ensuring (adequate) calcium intakes.”</p>
<p>The evidence supporting calcium as a miracle weight-loss nutrient is truly amazing. But what is it about calcium that causes it to shed the pounds? The answer lies in a seeming paradox. The more calcium you have in your diet, the less you have in your cells. Calcium is present only in the tiniest amounts inside your cells (intracellular) and soft tissues — 10,000 times less than outside your cells. But you have a tremendous amount in your bones and teeth.</p>
<p>On the other hand, calcium’s counterpart, magnesium, is abundant inside your cells and soft tissues. If you don’t take enough magnesium, calcium’s natural antagonist, it allows excess calcium to migrate into your cells (where the magnesium should be). Inside your cells, calcium wreaks havoc. It blocks magnesium-dependent, energy-producing, and metabolic enzymes. It’s a virtual poison to your mitochondria (your energy furnaces). Your cells’ energy production becomes impaired leading to degenerative diseases and blocked energy production.</p>
<p>We have uncontested evidence that certain diseases are characterized by elevated intracellular calcium and deficient intracellular magnesium. These include Type-2 diabetes, metabolic syndrome (insulin resistance), hypertension, heart disease, and others. Obesity is one of the metabolic syndrome diseases (these include Syndrome X).</p>
<p>Respected researchers have discovered that Syndrome X has an underlying excess of intracellular calcium. The high intracellular calcium binds and inactivates your enzymes. It sends out messages to constrict, raising blood pressure, while magnesium does the opposite — it relaxes. Dr. Resnick stated that the more intracellular calcium and less magnesium measured, the more severe the manifestations of problems. One of the most obvious manifestations of the imbalance is abdominal fat.</p>
<p>Still not convinced? Take a look at this: A recent study, published in JAMA, has shown an exciting effect of higher calcium intake and insulin resistance (metabolic syndrome) in young adults. This was a prospective study (the best kind) on 3,157, aged 18-30 years old. Higher dairy product consumption was associated with less insulin resistance, including less obesity, lower blood pressure, lower blood sugar, and lower blood fats. However, the results were seen only in overweight people, not the leaner population. The researchers estimated that each additional serving of dairy products lowered the risk of metabolic syndrome by 21%.</p>
<p>Most people know that dairy is one of our main sources of dietary calcium. Milk products definitely have benefit in this area. However, we need to be cautious about milk. Cow’s milk is high in acid-producing phosphorus and protein; and low in magnesium. Pasteurized milk delivers denatured protein. If raw-milk products are available, they are a far better alternative. Dairy should absolutely be organic!</p>
<p>Other natural dietary sources of calcium are abundant in raw-soaked nuts, seeds, and vegetables. These keep your calcium and magnesium consumption very high. It prevents any imbalances from occurring and it keeps your metabolism high.</p>
<p>In the winter, when vegetables are scarce and vitamin D levels are low (from a lack of sunshine), our calcium in-take and absorption (thanks to vitamin D) are a lot lower. Our body interprets the lack of calcium as a sign that good food isn’t available. So it slows down your metabolism and energy production to keep you from starving.</p>
<p>In the “real world,” this would be to our advantage. But in our artificial world of year-round food transportation, it’s a major problem. The low intake and absorption of calcium signal your body to enter a “hibernation” mode, slowing down your metabolism for the winter food shortage. However, your calorie consumption remains high all year. With the calcium metabolic alterations, there’s just no way for you to burn it off. Even calorie restriction without adequate calcium will result in further energy conservation by your body.</p>
<p>Action to Take: (1) Increase fruit and vegetables, which are loaded with both calcium and magnesium, and reduce your protein intake (high protein diets encourage calcium excretion). I strongly prefer a calcium-loaded diet to supplements. Remember, our ancestor’s intake of an estimated 2,000-3,000 mg calcium daily was not accomplished with pills.</p>
<p>(2) If you do want help from supplements, calcium citrate or lactate (calcium lactate has nothing to do with the lactose of dairy) are preferable. But make sure that you balance calcium with magnesium (citrate, glycinate, or lactate) at least 2:1 and preferably 3:2. Calcium supplementation is usually very safe. In fact, one report stated that calcium intakes up to at least 2,500 mg daily are safe for virtually all patients. Increasing your calcium in-take is an effective was to lose inches and pounds without draconian calorie restriction.</p>
<p>Here are two final, but very important tidbits. (1) If you have hypertension that’s not sensitive to salt, too much calcium could make your blood pressure worse. So talk to your doctor before adding extra calcium via supplements. (2) The science strongly suggests that higher calcium will be far more effective at weight loss if your food consumption is below the average for your body mass. In other words, if you’re overeating, please don’t expect any nutritional intervention to override your caloric abuse.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>What do we mean by acidification?</em></p>
<p>Let’s look at how this all works. Like any machine, our body needs fuel in order operate. Unfortunately, the fuel or food that most people use is not what the body needs or desires. In order to operate at peak efficiency, the body needs the proper food. The typical diet is high in food with little to no food value.</p>
<p>The problem goes much deeper than just lower efficiency. Like any machine, the fuel that we burn creates exhaust or by-products, sometimes called ash. In the body, our food is burned as fuel on the cellular level. The blood is the vehicle used to carry the food to the cell, and is also used to carry the waste or exhaust away from the cell to be eliminated.</p>
<p>When raw fruits and vegetables are consumed, the body breaks it down and sends it to the cells for fuel. The cell burns the fuel and the exhaust is an alkaline ash. When food from the typical diet is burned as fuel, the exhaust created is an acid ash. That acid is then carried in the blood.</p>
<p>Since blood pH is so critical to life, the body protects the blood at all costs. The body has to neutralize this acid or risk major problems.</p>
<p>Our goal then is to reduce the amount of food that creates an acidic ash and increase the foods that create an alkaline ash.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><em>What Causes Over-Acidity?</em></p>
<p>The reason acidosis is more common in our society is mostly due to the typical American diet, which is far too high in acid-producing animal products like meat, eggs and dairy, and far too low in alkaline-producing foods like fresh vegetables. Additionally, we eat acid-producing processed foods like white flour and sugar and drink acid-producing beverages like coffee and soft drinks. We use too many drugs, which are acid-forming; and we use artificial chemical sweetners likeNutraSweet, Equal, or aspartame, which are extremely acid-forming. One of the best things we can do to correct an overly-acid body is to clean up the diet and lifestyle.</p>
<p>Most people who suffer from unbalanced pH are acidic. This condition forces the body to borrow minerals—including calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium—from vital organs and bones to buffer (neutralize) the acid and safely remove it from the body. Because of this strain, the body can suffer severe and prolonged damage due to high acidity—a condition that may go undetected for years.</p>
<p>Mild acidosis can cause such problems as:</p>
<ul>
<li>Cardiovascular damage, including the constriction of blood vessels and the reduction of oxygen.</li>
<li>Weight gain, obesity and diabetes.</li>
<li>Bladder and kidney conditions, including kidney stones.</li>
<li>Immune deficiency.</li>
<li>Acceleration of free radical damage, possibly contributing to cancerous mutations.</li>
<li>Premature aging.</li>
<li>Osteoporosis; weak, brittle bones, hip fractures and bone spurs.</li>
<li>Joint pain, aching muscles and lactic acid buildup.</li>
<li>Low energy and chronic fatigue.</li>
<li>A recent seven-year study conducted at the University of California, San Francisco, on 9,000 women showed that those who have chronic acidosis are at greater risk for bone loss than those who have normal pH levels. The scientists who carried out this experiment believe that many of the hip fractures prevalent among middle-aged women are connected to high acidity caused by a diet rich in animal foods and low in vegetables. This is because the body borrows calcium from the bones in order to balance pH. American Journal of Clinical Nutrition</li>

<p><em>Effects on the body of too much acid</em></p>
<p>Acid in the body acts very much like acid outside the body. It creates waste. It ages the skin, degenerates tissues, and causes major problems. Additionally, most health concerns are created by an over abundance of acid in the system. Reducing acid in the system is critical to long-term health.</p>
<p>Many people love to drink a can of soda. If you look on the label, you will discover that a can of soda primarily contains acid. The pH of a soda is around 2.3. That is highly toxic. The body has to scramble to neutralize that acid in the system. It uses sodium, calcium from the bones or teeth, or anything else it has to in order to neutralize the acid.</p>
<p>Part of this system includes a slight change in some of the foods that we normally would eat. We understand that most people will not eliminate all the bad food from their diet, so instead of eliminating it, we are going to suggest a strategy of reduction.</p>
<p>Keeping the balance right for excellent health<br />
Your body is able to assimilate minerals and nutrients properly only when its pH is balanced. It is therefore possible for you to be taking healthy nutrients and yet be unable to absorb or use them. If you are not getting the results you expected from your nutritional or herbal program, look for an acid alkaline imbalance. Even the right herbal program may not work if your body’s pH is out of balance.</p>

<p><strong>*Testing pH</strong></p>
<p><em>Testing Urine pH</em></p>
<p>The results of urine testing indicate how well your body is assimilating minerals, especially calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium. These are called the “acid buffers” because they are used by the body to control the acid level. If acid levels are too high, the body will not be able to excrete acid. It must either store the acid in body tissues (autotoxication) or buffer it—that is, borrow minerals from organs, bones, etc. in order to neutralize acidity.</p>
<p><em>Testing Saliva pH</em></p>
<p>You’ll also want to test the pH of your saliva. The results of saliva testing indicate the activity of digestive enzymes in your body, especially the activity of the liver and stomach. This reveals the flow of enzymes running through your body and shows their effect on all the body systems. Some people will have acidic pH readings from both urine and saliva—this is referred to as “double acid.”</p>
<p><em>Salivating Test</em></p>
<p>You sit down to eat, you get the aroma of your favorite mealtime dish, you are ready to chow down and something begins to happen in your mouth. You begin to salivate. This is a reflection of the enzyme amylase kicking in for the starch digestion process. This enzyme needs a range of pH ideally around 7.2 pH. So if you have adequate alkaline reserves in your body, testing your saliva pH as you salivate before a meal should give you a pH reading of around 7.2. If your pH is not getting up to at least 7.0, you can assume there is stress in your alkaline reserves and the further below 7 it goes, the more depleted are those reserves. You could also suspect digestion all around is not doing so well. This typically indicates a longer term problem and more serious effort needs to be applied to help restore overall health.</p>
<p><em>Acid Meal Testing</em></p>
<p>Here you are going to eat an acid forming food evening meal. Meat, pasta, beans, bread, nuts, fish, no vegetables. Next morning, check your first urine pH. The meal the previous evening was too acid, but the body needs to be getting rid of this acid, so the urine should reflect this. Best situation would be wake up urine from 4.5 up to 5.8 or so. This would be a reflection of your body having enough alkaline reserves that it was buffering the acid and the adrenals and kidneys had appropriate energy to get rid of it. It is a healthy response.<br />
Wake up urine after the acid evening meal between 5.8 and 6.8 is a reflection that the body is barely compensating, and the higher the pH the worse the situation.</p>
<p>Wake up urine after the acid evening meal of 6.8 or higher is not good. It is a possible indication that the body is dumping bicarbonate ions and may be in the ammonia cycle of the liver to help deal with the acid. This situation probably means depleted alkaline reserves and possible exhausted adrenal glands as well as probable digestive problems.</p>
<p>If the above situation or an alkaline morning urine is accompanied by an acid saliva less then 5.8, the situation is getting worse, and the further apart the numbers, the worse it is. Definite remedial action for alkaline reserve build up is critical.</p>
<p>As a point of reference, have you ever been to a nursing home and smelled an ammonia odor? Did you think that was because the nursing home was doing a good job of house cleaning? Well that is not the case. What is happening is you are smelling the urine of very sick people in their last days. Their bodies are in a give up state, they are likely dumping any alkaline buffers they have and the body is in last ditch mode trying to maintain sufficient blood pH for life to hang on by converting the acid in their systems to ammonia. The single biggest thing those individuals need is more water for hydration and a lot of alkalizing minerals. I would venture to guess that if this were to occur in nursing homes around the country a lot of their patients would be getting better and going home.</p>
<p><em>Alkaline Meal Testing</em></p>
<p>Here you are going to eat an alkalizing evening meal. Basically all vegetables. Green leafy veggies, broccoli, lima beans, carrots, etc. Next morning check your first urine pH. If the pH range is 4.5 to 5.5 you can consider it a too acid response. It means your body has a lot of excess acidity stored and you need to keep up those alkaline evening meals until the numbers come up. If you have a pH range from 5.5 to 6.8 it could be considered that you have a better level of alkaline reserves, but key to that assumption would be how you feel. If you feel healthy this range is ok. If you have symptoms of problems, you may need to dig more into the situation.</p>
<p>If the pH range is 6.8 to 8.5 again it could mean all is very well IF you are perfectly healthy. However, if you were experiencing serious symptoms of ill health, this alkaline response could be an indication that your cells are too toxic to use the alkaline reserves and instead are being dumped.</p>
<p>It should be mentioned here that there can be times when someone consumes many vegetables and alkaline minerals and their pH readings average far above 6.4. They believe this to be healthy but it actually is reflecting an underlying imbalance. Instead of using the minerals they are being dumped. Further testing will many times show an anabolic/catabolic imbalance – some clinicians also refer to this as an anaerobic/dysaerobic imbalance. This is related to the mix of fatty acids and sterols on cell membrane walls. If these fatty acids and sterols go askew it will affect cell membrane permeability so what goes in does not necessarily get assimilated the way it should.</p>
<p><em>Average pH</em></p>
<p>To get a quick “average” pH, you can measure yourself two hours after breakfast and two hours after lunch. Do this over a period of days and get your average numbers. Then use this formula:</p>
<p><em><strong>(Avg Urine pH ____ + Avg Saliva pH X 2 ___ ) / Divided by 3 = ___</strong></em></p>

<p>Internal cleansing of the lymphatic system is essential because the lymph glands serve as one of the body’s primary defense mechanisms. The lymphatic system is the only way the body has of cleansing out cellular debris that the bloodstream doesn’t take care of, such as viruses, bacteria and dust. The lymphatic glands are distributed throughout the body and serve as filters which absorb excesses of proteins.</p>
<p>The lymphatic system is like the circulatory system: it moves a fluid — which makes up about 80% of total body fluids – throughout the body. This lymphatic fluid picks up debris as it moves along its path. Normally, excess lymphatic fluid is excreted through the skin, the kidneys and other eliminative organs.</p>
<p>Unlike the circulatory system which has a pump, the heart, to keep the fluid moving, the lymphatic system has nothing to keep the fluid moving other than your own movement. Good breathing and exercise are crucial to keep this fluid going. When there is toxicity from improper diet or elimination, clothing worn too tightly, or not enough exercise, the lymphatic fluid gets blocked. The lymphatic glands then tend to swell under this toxic condition. This swelling is a sign that the body is overloaded with excess wastes.</p>
<p>There are a lot of lymphatic glands around the breasts. As well, the female breast contains a lot of fatty tissue which tends to particularly accumulate toxins. The combination of these two factors is probably one reason why breast cancer is so prevalent.</p>
<p>A French medical professor, Dr. Timothy Murrell, recommends regular breast stimulation to promote lymphatic drainage throughout the breast tissue. Dr. Murrell has demonstrated that nipple stimulation triggers a release of a natural compound called oxytocin. This chemical is important because as it seeps through the nipple, it carries with it a load of toxins, including DDT, PCB’s, dioxin and heavy metals. Nipple stimulation cleanses the breasts of these accumulated toxins and may go a long way toward preventing breast cancer.</p>

<p><em>Why should I get a colonic?</em><em></em></p>
<p>Over a long period of time fecal matter, mucus, toxins and parasites form a wall of impacted debris in the colon that can cause a build-up of toxicity. Prolonged accumulation of waste matter can also cause lethargy in the muscles of the colon, causing a sluggish bowel that cannot make complete bowel movements. Ill health is inevitable when the colon is not kept clean. A malfunctioning colon will affect the digestive system as well as every living cell and organ in the body.</p>
<p>A colon begins to malfunction when foods are not fully digested; a degenerative cycle begins then. The undigested foods begin putrefying and create an overly acidic condition. The friendly bacteria that are normal in a healthy colon begin to die off, creating an anaerobic (oxygen-deficient) environment for disease producing bacteria, viruses, fungi, mold, parasites and yeast. When these toxins are absorbed through the blood capillaries lining the large intestine, the blood, too, will putrefy and acidification of the blood, too, takes place. This acidic and toxin-laden blood then pollutes the body on a cellular level. At this point, the cycle of life and health reverts to the cycle of death and disease.</p>

<p><em>How should I prepare for a colonic?</em><em></em></p>

<p><em>When should you have a colonic?</em></p>
<p>Colonics are good any time, but are especially beneficial when there is a health issue for which colon and tissue cleansing would be helpful.</p>
<p>Maintenance colonics are a nice way of inaugurating every season change.</p>
<p>Colonics are useful to do before a colonoscopy (a medical examination performed by a Gastroenterologist).</p>
<p>Colonics are extremely helpful before, during and after a fast.</p>
<p>Because colonics often alleviate symptoms of PMS, they are useful to have before and during menstruation.</p>

<p><em>What happens during a colonic?</em></p>
<p>A colonic session is 45-60 minutes in which 15-20 gallons of water are gently flushed through the colon. A small speculum is inserted into the rectum. This speculum is then attached to a plastic hose which connects to the colonic machine. The colonic therapist then adjusts the volume and temperature of the water coming out of the machine which runs through a plastic hose into the rectum and through the entire colon. The colon is temporarily filled with a certain volume of water to individual tolerance. This will induce peristaltic contractions in the colon, and you will begin to expel fecal matter through the colonic hose which leads back to the colonic machine and through a clear plastic viewing tube.</p>
<p>While you are receiving the colonic treatment, La Casa’s colon therapist lightly massages various parts of your abdomen to help loosen and dislodge areas of fecal impaction for more complete elimination.</p>
<p>You are kept covered during the session. All waste is disposed through a tube; thus, there is no odor. The use of disposable instruments and tubing is employed to secure total sanitation and hygiene. La Casa’s water is filtered, ozonated and passed through a UV light system.</p>
<p>It is quite interesting to see what is expelled during a normal colonic treatment. One may see mucous, parasites, worms and very old feculent material (noted by its dark black color) pass through the clear tube. This old feculent material may have been lying in the colon for years. It looks like vulcanized rubber and has that kind of consistency. In addition, you may experience sensations of warmth due to the presence of toxins in the feculent matter.</p>

<p><em>How many colonics are recommended?</em></p>
<p>One colonic, though helpful, is not sufficient to effectively cleanse the colon. Considerable gas may be expelled during the first few treatments. It usually takes a few treatments before the process of dislodging old encrusted feculent matter is begun. One should remember that it usually takes years for the colon to become clogged up with its own waste products. Therefore, one should not be impatient when pursuing a therapeutic course of colonic irrigations.</p>
<p>La Casa recommends following a comprehensive program with both nutritional input and colon management techniques: a series of up to 8 colonics is best for a thorough program. The first three colonics should take place over a period of ten days, followed by one weekly colonic throughout the rest of the series. If this program is not possible, La Casa’s colon therapists will work with you to design a program that is manageable for you.</p>

<p><em>Are there any downsides of colonics?</em></p>
<p>Some people erroneously think that colon irrigations wash out the intestinal flora and thus deprive the colon of a valuable means of lubrication. This school of thought is utterly false. Obviously, when the packed accumulation of feces in the bowel leads to fecal encrustation, it is not possible for the lining of the colon to function normally, and the glands in this lining cannot produce the necessary intestinal flora or lubrication. Such lack of lubrication only serves to intensify a state of constipation and to generate toxemia. We encourage La Casa’s clients to take a pro-biotic to replace the very small amount of intestinal flora that may have been washed out along with the toxins.</p>

<p><em>Are colonics a substitute for laxatives?</em></p>
<p>It’s actually the other way around: laxatives are a bad substitute for colonics. Colonics are infinitely better than laxatives. Laxatives offer only temporary relief and do not address the cause of the real problem.</p>

<div>The Bristol Stool Form Scale divides stools into 7 distinct types, size, shape, color:</div>
<div>Healthy stool is long, round and smooth with the texture simlar to creamy peanut butter and golden brown in color. It should be slightly acidic so it floats on the surface of water, breaking up soon afterwards. The colon pH itself should be slightly alkaline, thus promoting the growth of friendly bacteria.</div>

<div>Unhealthy stool falls into the following categories and indicates an underlying health issue:</div>

<div>1. Dry with hard lumps or clumps. When transit time is too long, one may be extremely constipated. This condition is usually caused by lack of fluids, lack of friendly bacteria and a dearth of essential oils, or by stress, excess mucosa, and not enough fiber. <div><em>Colors of Stool</em></div>

<div>The colors and size of the stool indicate the transit time through the digestive tract. The color can tell you how well your digestion is and alert you to other changes concerning your wellness. This information is observed by your colon therapist. If you wish to observe the stool as it leaves the body, this is possible in La Casa’s colonics.</div>

<div>Stool that is lighter in color — pale — may indicate a blockage in the bile duct or a deficiency in producing bile (digestive aid). Because of the high fat content, stool may be foul smelling and sticky like clay making it difficult to flush. This is usually the result of bad absorption.</div>

<div>Blood (detected by a red color in the stool) is an indication of colon disease, internal hemorrhoids, or parasites. Eating beets will aslo add color to stools and urine and can be used as an indicator of transit time.</div>

<div>Dark Stools are usually from a diet of dark greens, iron supplements or meat.</div>
<div>Slimy stools contain excess mucus caused by bacteria, yeast, infection, tumor, or other problem int he colon. Systemic balance is thrown off when the colon gets too acidic, creating an environment in which only pathogens can survive.</div>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h4>Rebounding is unique as an aerobic exercise because it stimulates, strengthens and cleanses every cell in the body. This is because it uses vertical motion rather than the horizontal motion that is used in all other forms of exercise.</h4>
<p>Simply explained, when you bounce up and down, your entire body goes through repetitive vertical acceleration and deceleration, working against gravity. At the bottom of every bounce, your entire body stops for a split second. At this moment, the force of gravity shoves down on every cell in your body. This is the deceleration working with gravity. Then your body shoots back upward, again stopping for just a split instant. This is your moment in space. The movement upward has exerted pressure on your body from the opposite direction of the downward movement. This is the acceleration working against gravity. Because of the repetitive pushing and pulling on all your cells, the tissues and fibers and muscles in your body all grow stronger. This includes your heart fibers and the muscle layers within the arterial walls, even if you don’t dramatically get your heart rate up.</p>
<p>Also, rebounding cleanses and purifies every cell. Your cells depend on the diffusion of fluid through the permeable membranes in order to carry oxygen, nutrients, hormones and enzymes into the cell, and to flush out metabolic waste. This process is increased by a factor of 300% by rebounding. This is because at the top of every bounce, your body actually becomes weightless for a fraction of a second. The cells therefore oscillate between increased G-force and no G-force, providing a constant compression/decompression factor.  This on-going compression/decompression of the cell membranes significantly boosts the diffusion of fluid into and out of the cells, carrying fresh oxygen and nutrients, and flushing out the toxins. There is literally no other form of exercise that has this same capacity for total cellular cleansing.</p>
<p>The lymph system, specifically, cleans the body of debris. Lymph fluid surrounds every cell in your body. The human body contains three times more lymph fluid than it does blood. The pressure that is exerted on the lymphatic system in rebounding activates the valves in the lymph channels to their maximum capacity, increasing lymph flow by as much as 30 times normal. In fact, the entire lymph system can be cleansed in the span of a single, short session on the trampoline. Clogged lymph nodes are cleared; tonsils and adenoids are cleansed, as are the larger organs of the appendix and spleen.</p>
<p>And if you thought that was enough, there is still more. Jumping can also substantially boost the immune system by increasing the activity of lymphocytes within the bloodstream. Any form of exercise can, of course, do this. But research shows that when the body is exposed to higher than normal gravitational pressure, such as that produced in rebounding, that the lymphocyte activity is increased to the greatest extent. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Children love to spin, to rock, to swing — to do anything that momentarily changes their consciousness of ordinary reality. It is probably the case that this desire is genetically inbred into us given the tenaciousness with which we hold on to any method that accomplishes this — from drugs and alcohol, to daydreaming and fantasy, to yoga and meditation.</p>
<p>In the 1950′s, John Lilly started experimenting with the deliberate induction of a change in consciousness through the use of sensory deprivation. By 1970 he had perfected the flotation tank in which the adventuresome person would lie buoyantly atop body temperature water saturated with Epsom salts. The tank inside was pitch black, and there was no sound penetrating through. Although Lilly did some interesting experiments in his tank, it was not for the faint of heart. The tank itself was more like a coffin than a tank. And because of a series of other experiments done on severe sensory manipulation in which experimental subjects had adverse reactions, many people became fearful of the tank.</p>
<p>Today, we have moved away from any interest in altered states which resemble the drug-induced states of the 50’s and 60’s. Today, instead, most of us are interested in relaxation and stress reduction.</p>
<p>In pursuit of this goal, La Casa has up-dated John Lilly’s original flotation tank into a flotation room. You actually step into the chamber and lie down only when you’re comfortable and acclimated to your new environment. We’ve added an optional soft, blue light and optional piped-in music.</p>
<p>We get rave reviews from clients who float. No one talks too much about altered states of consciousness, the relaxation is quite profound. We’ve had a number of new parents and insomniacs (if you’ve ever been a new parent, you’ll know that new parents and insomniacs have a lot in common), and they tell us that floating has transformed impossible, exhausted days into high energy days. Some floaters say that they have the experience when they float of “coming home.” This is, of course, because the environment in the float room is roughly equivalent to our very first environment, the womb. Our memories may even be reaching back further, back to the sea before we even became human.</p>
<p>When you float, you are not straining against gravity, and thus every muscle in your body is more relaxed than you can get it in any other way (except space travel). Consequently, you develop a heightened awareness of any tensions, spasms, knots that may have escaped your notice. You can work on consciously releasing the tension in these places.</p>
<p>Floating creates a drop in blood pressure, a slowing of pulse rate and allows the blood to circulate more freely throughout the body. Because of the sensory deprivation aspects of being in the float room, we become extremely aware of our internal world. (It’s why, as well, patients in psychoanalysis lie on the couch. The mild sensory deprivation they experience in not seeing the analyst facilitates access to the unconscious.) We become sensitive to our thoughts and feelings, as well as to our autonomic functions such as respiration, heartbeat and dilation of blood vessels. If we choose to use the floating experience in such a way, we can bring these involuntary functions under conscious control, thereby achieving a unity of all parts of our brain, our reptile brain, our limbic brain and our neo-cortex. This unity, achieved in a state of utter passivity, confers on us a unique state, one that is both extraordinarily quiet and intensely conscious.</p>
<p>Research on floating shows that it is healing for a number of abnormal conditions. It helps people to fight addictions, depression, anxiety and fears, and facilitates weight loss. There are tons of hard medical data to support these claims.</p>
<p>But none of that is why we at La Casa like floating as much as we do. We consider one of its most powerful effects to be its detoxifying aspect. All that healthy Epsom salt just pulls toxins right to the surface of the skin where you can shower them off.
